Expanding a Flagship Campaign

"We Are Family" serves as We Are Blood’s ongoing flagship video initiative, telling the real human stories behind Central Texas blood donation. During my tenure as Communications & Content Manager, I brought a fresh lens to the series by producing two distinct, high-impact installments designed to resonate across different donor demographics.

The Recipient Story: The flagship feature anchors the series in raw human reality. It follows a woman’s personal account of surviving a near-fatal medical emergency - a turnaround made possible solely because a high number of blood products were readily available in her community. Combining intimate interview direction with personal archival photos and a delicate musical score, the edit creates an immediate emotional connection.

The Clinical Perspective: The second installment approaches donor motivation through clinical authority—featuring a local physician who extolls the vital importance of a stable regional blood supply. This segment frames blood donation as an essential component of community healthcare infrastructure.

"When I think about telling my story ... if I can call people to action, to doing something ... giving blood costs you nothing, it's just a time commitment. It may be a little scary - but it's the reason I'm here today."

Production & Post Execution

I directed both interviews with a focus on cinematic texture and pristine technical execution. To achieve high dynamic range and narrative intimacy, I shot across cinema and hybrid setups (RED Komodo, Fujifilm X-H2S, DJI Pocket 3) paired with Nanlite COB LED lighting softboxes and negative fill flags for controlled, high-contrast shaping.

Audio was captured using dedicated wireless lavaliers paired with an overhead boom mic to ensure crisp, broadcast-grade dialogue clarity.

In post-production, I managed the end-to-end workflow in Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve; handling editorial pacing, audio mixing, and custom color grading. I delivered full-length horizontal master cuts as well as multiple vertical social edits. To support the launch, I also created the accompanying promotional still graphics for web and social feeds.
